(Recycle the City)
Whether your office is moving, upgrading, or just getting rid of the clutter, Recycle the City is a call you will want to make. How it Works
Recycle the City is a for-profit company that charges by the pick up, but don’t be deceived, this is a good deal. Moving and getting rid of stuff in New York City can be a pain. Moving men and vans are expensive and figuring out where to take everything is time consuming. Further, usually you don’t know where it will end up, probably a land fill. Recycle the City will do everything to set your mind at ease for a reasonable pick up fee. They will even be your moving crew and van when you move into a new office. Items such as furniture cannot be taken if broken beyond use. Broken items that are accepted are mentioned on the website. And when I say they take everything, I mean everything, from paper clips to carpet pieces to tables, chairs, and computers!

The Bigger Picture
I spoke with Leah Fisch from Recycle the City to learn more about what Recycle the City is all about. The point she wanted to drive home was Recycle the City’s mission to recreate the relationship between resources and communities through solid waste diversion. As a community, we can solve the problem of ever growing land fills and those who go without. It is important to Recycle the City to deepen community awareness. They are currently in the process of establishing Recycle the City stores where organizations can shop for free with tax letters, and when they select your item, the organization will send you a letter with your tax write-off. Even everyday people can use the store and a letter will be sent to you about who your item has gone to. Getting rid of useable items can be depressing and feel like a loss, with Recycle the City, you can have the peace of mind that the items are being used and have helped someone in your community.
The Question
Are you going to:
a) Pay for the dumpster, get the permit, hire moving men (or move it yourself), basically get a huge headache, and add to growing landfills?
b) Be a social deviant and leave your stuff on the sidewalk when no one is looking, leaving yourself or your neighbors susceptible to fines or increasing taxes due to overloaded disposal workers and landfills?
c) Or pay a reasonable fee to have Recycle the City do it all and leave you with a tax write-off and the warm fuzzy feeling of helping your community?
