When choosing your new office, location often defers to price or size when making the final decision. In the end you need to be able to afford your rent and you need enough space to work, but location is really what employees care about most. Think about being near a transportation hub, or maybe even a single train line that suits the needs of your employees. If your office is small enough, think about how everyone gets to work each day and if there is a location that suits everyone’s needs. Generally speaking Manhattan is much easier to navigate going north south rather than east west. So if your office right now is on the west side, chances are anywhere else on the west side won’t be too much rougher a commute, while switching to the east side could mean an extra subway transfer twice a day.

In addition, location can say a lot about your office and your company. Clearly some locations are more prestigious than others. If company image is a top priority having a Midtown or Downtown office is probably where you’re headed. In addition if you regularly have customers coming in and out of your office, investing in a better location is probably a worthwhile choice. Other companies are more concerned with being in an industry specific area than with the title of their neighborhood. Would your business benefit from being near similar companies? Does your company require visible signage from the street? Do you mind being off the beaten path? These are all questions worth considering when looking for new office space.

Price and size may be the deciding factors, just make sure not to neglect the impact location can have.
